Dentures and Partial Dentures

When teeth have been lost, dentures can be made in partial or full form depending on how many teeth need to be replaced. A partial denture will usually replace 1-12 teeth and is completely removable. A full denture can replace both upper and lower arches. Full dentures can be made in Conventional or Immediate form. After any diseased teeth are removed, the gums and jaw bones will shrink as they heal. An Immediate Denture can be worn during this healing period and adjustments will be made to accommodate them in your mouth as you heal. However, because of the natural shrinkage of the gums, immediate dentures must be rebuilt in time to fit the new shape of your mouth once the healing has stabilized. A Conventional denture will be made and delivered after healing is complete, which can take from 4-8 weeks. Although this means going without teeth for a while, when conventional dentures are delivered, the fit usually requires only minor adjustments. All dentures will typically require a learning period on a patient's part. The mouth, lips, cheeks, and tongue will adapt to the dentures with both time and practice. We also make Valplast dentures which give a better cosmetic effect due to having absolutely no metal present. Existing dentures that fit poorly can be secured in place with dental implants.
